Hamilton County Schools offers 11th and 12th grade students attending the  Construction Career Center dual enrollment with Chattanooga State Community College  and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT).  Students graduating from the Construction Career Center will have at least five (5) certifications from the National Center for Construction Education and Research, OSHA-10 Safety Training, and paid work-based learning experience with a construction firm as a part of the curriculum.

Other programming includes:

  • Commercial construction job site visits
  • Mentorships with construction professionals
  • Meet and greet with industry leaders
  • Mock interviews

HOW IT WORKS

Students will attend their primary school for half day and the Construction Career Center for a half day.  While transportation will be provided to and from Howard High School and East Ridge High School, any student in Hamilton County Schools can attend with pre-requisite courses*.

Students will spend some time in a classroom setting for verbal instruction with educators before hands-on learning in the lab with industry professionals.

ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS

A limited number of students will be accepted into the program each year.  Students must apply through the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) and agree to a code of discipline in order to attend.  Students will be removed from the program for repeat violations against the code of discipline.  Selected students will be interviewed by educators and industry professionals before acceptance into the program.
